  • If your employer offers a BenefitWallet debit card for your account, we strongly encourage you to activate and use it whenever possible to pay for qualified expenses. To review the list of IRS eligible health expenses, click here.

    • If you have a BenefitWallet debit card but have not yet activated it, please do so as soon as possible so it’s ready to use when you need it.
    • If you do not have a debit card for your BenefitWallet account, you can pay for services out of pocket and request reimbursement online through the member portal or by using the BenefitWallet mobile app.

  • Formally named the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the CARES Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. It provides emergency relief in the wake of the COVID-19 public health emergency.

  • You can now purchase over-the-counter (OTC) medical products without a prescription from a physician, including pain relievers, cold medicines, bandages and more. Additionally, menstrual care and feminine hygiene products, such as tampons, pads and cups, are now included as an eligible expense. These changes are permanent and retroactive to January 1, 2020.

  • No. Per Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, you are still required to substantiate (provide proof for) purchases made using FSA or HRA funds. Please note merchants will need time to update their systems to reflect the eligibility of OTC and feminine hygiene items. In the interim, please be sure to keep all receipts for substantiation and reimbursement purposes.
